The Four Zones of Operation

How often have you heard statements like "growth happens beyond the comfort zone", "move out of your comfort zone", "comfort zone is the concrete where grass doesn't grow" and the like? But have you taken a moment to reflect on why comfort might be vilified?

Over the years of self-reflection and also having spoken to multiple people, I have realized that life can be segmented into four zones. The first zone can be seen as chaos zone where our lives are in turmoil, and we are completely in survival mode. In this mode, our brains are incapable of thinking anything beyond survival.

The next zone can be seen as a calm zone, where things are starting to settle down. As the imminent threat subsides, the exhaustion that the adrenaline rush of the chaos zone was suppressing, our bodies begin to feel them. This is a phase when on the surface level we might not be under any threat, but we are still not functioning optimally because we are recuperating from what we went through in the previous zone.

Then, once we feel safe enough to have rested well, we enter the comfort zone where we have the luxury to focus on growth and expansion.

However, if we take the good times for granted, we can easily slip into the complacency zone where our growth plateaus and eventually declines.

So, which zone do you find yourself at the moment? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
